Terms of Use

1. Purpose

PlateWave is a road communication platform that allows road users to send messages linked to licence plates. Messages are automatically rephrased by artificial intelligence to ensure a courteous and constructive tone.

2. Registration

Registration is free and requires a valid email address. The email is used for authentication only and is never displayed publicly. A username is used to identify contributions.

3. Use of the service

By using PlateWave, you agree to:

• Not use the service for harassment or stalking
• Not intentionally publish false information
• Not attempt to circumvent the AI transformation system
• Comply with applicable Belgian and European law

3a. Zero tolerance

PlateWave applies a zero tolerance policy towards any inappropriate content. The following are strictly prohibited:

• Hateful, discriminatory, racist or sexist content
• Harassment, threats or intimidation
• Sexual or violent content
• Spam or unsolicited advertising

Users who publish offensive content, even before AI transformation, will be banned from the platform. Any reported content will be reviewed and handled within 24 hours.

3b. Reporting and blocking

Any user may:

• Report inappropriate content - the content will be reviewed by our moderation team. Repeated abusive reporting may result in sanctions.
• Block another user - blocking instantly and reciprocally hides all messages from the blocked user. Unblocking is possible at any time from the settings.

4. Message transformation

All messages are automatically transformed by our AI before publication. The original message is never made public. PlateWave reserves the right to moderate or delete any content deemed inappropriate, even after transformation.

5. Intellectual property

The content, design and code of PlateWave are protected by copyright. Transformed messages published on the platform may be displayed publicly as part of the service.

6. Limitation of liability

PlateWave cannot be held liable for the accuracy of messages published by users, nor for the use made of them by recipients. The service is provided "as is".

7. Cookies and audience measurement

PlateWave uses technical cookies (session, authentication) and analytics cookies (Google Analytics GA4) to improve the service. Analytics cookies are only enabled after your explicit consent. You may withdraw this consent at any time. For more details, see our privacy policy.

8. Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to amend these terms at any time. Users will be informed of substantial changes by email or by a notification on the site.

9. Account deletion

Any user may delete their account at any time:

• From the mobile app settings (Profile, then Delete my account)
• By contacting hello@platewave.be

Deleting your account results in the anonymisation of your personal data (email, username) in accordance with the GDPR. Published messages are kept anonymously for the platform's history.

9a. Right not to be contacted (opt-out)

Anyone may request that a licence plate be blocked on PlateWave, preventing the receipt of any new message. This right is separate from account deletion and is based on Article 21 of the GDPR (right to object).

• Requests are made through our dedicated page, with no account and no email address, or by email to optout@platewave.be
• Blocking is free and takes effect immediately through the dedicated page (by email: within 48 hours)
• Once the plate is blocked, no new message can be sent to it
• Existing messages are no longer visible as soon as the plate is blocked; they are permanently deleted within 48 hours
